Dark Olive Green
Tsavorite
Polished dark olive-green tsavorite round beads with grey-khaki flecks and natural dark inclusions.
Tsavorite is a metamorphic mineral, Mohs hardness 7.
Where it’s found: Tsavorite is a green garnet mined almost entirely in Kenya and Tanzania, near Tsavo, which gave it its name.
Why the colour: Its green comes from traces of vanadium and chromium.
Good to know: Gem-quality tsavorite is transparent and clear enough to facet, which makes it rare and expensive. Bead-grade tsavorite is the same mineral, just more opaque, which makes it far more affordable. Tsavorite is usually untreated.
Across traditions, tsavorite is worn as a reminder of growth, abundance, energy and balance. We share these correspondences as cultural tradition, not medical claim.
Often gifted to those born under aries and leo and virgo.
Designs are handmade in Britain after ordering, usually crafted in our Oxfordshire studio within 2-3 days.
