Tiger's Eye is a metamorphic mineral, Mohs hardness 7.
Where it’s found: Tiger's eye comes mainly from South Africa, with smaller amounts from Australia, India and Namibia.
Why the colour: It formed when quartz slowly replaced fibres of another mineral. Iron gives it the golden brown, and the fibres catch the light in that silky moving band.
